Overview

Doctrine of Humanity

Man and woman were made in the image of God with individuality, the power and freedom to think and to do. Though created free beings, each is an indivisible unity of body, mind, and spirit, dependent upon God for life and breath and all else.

When our first parents disobeyed God, they denied their dependence upon Him and fell from their high position. The image of God in them was marred and they became subject to death.

Their descendants share this fallen nature and its consequences. They are born with weaknesses and tendencies to evil. But God in Christ reconciled the world to Himself and by His Spirit restores in penitent mortals the image of their Maker. Created for the glory of God, they are called to love Him and one another, and to care for their environment.

Requirements

1. Know the origin of human life and name the material used to create man. (Genesis 1:27; 2:7)

2. Explain why our first parents, who were created to live forever, lost this condition of immortality. (Genesis 2:16-17; 3:22)

3. Define sin. (1 John 3:4; James 4:17; Romans 14:23)

4. Understand the consequences of sin. (Romans 6:23; Ezekiel 18:4, 20)

5. Recognize the lie told by the serpent in Eden, which many still believe today, and know who the only immortal being is. (Genesis 3:4; 1 Timothy 6:15-16)

6. Memorize and recite 1 John 5:11-12.

7. Share with a friend what God did to solve the problem of sin. (John 3:16)

8. Demonstrate in a practical way to your unit or another group the elements God used in creating humankind (this can be through dramatization or another illustrative method).
