The Lord’s Supper is a participation in the emblems of the body and blood of Jesus as an expression of faith in Him, our Lord and Saviour.
In this experience of communion Christ is present to meet and strengthen His people. As we partake, we joyfully proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes again.
Preparation for the Supper includes self-examination, repentance, and confession. The Master ordained the service of foot-washing to signify renewed cleansing, to express a willingness to serve one another in Christlike humility, and to unite our hearts in love.
The communion service is open to all believing Christians.
Requirements
1. Understand the message we proclaim when we partake in the Lord’s Supper. (1 Corinthians 11:26)
2. Know the meaning of the bread and grape juice as symbols in Communion. (Matthew 26:26-29; John 6:35; John 15:1)
3. Know who established foot washing as part of Communion. (John 13:3-5)
4. Explain the two meanings of foot washing taught by Jesus. (John 13:12-16; Matthew 6:14-15)
5. Know when Jesus promised that He would return to celebrate Communion with His disciples. (Matthew 26:29)
6. Memorize and recite Luke 22:19-20.
7. Share with a friend the importance of the Lord’s Supper, explaining Jesus’s promise to those who partake. (John 6:54)
