ANZAC Day
Overview
You will learn the history and significance of ANZAC Day in Australia and New Zealand and how to observe it by participating in an ANZAC Day service.
Requirements
1. What is ANZAC Day?
2. What does the acronym ANZAC stand for?
3. What date is ANZAC Day and why is it held on that date?
4. List 4 things people do to commemorate ANZAC Day.
5. List 5 ways we can show respect and observe ANZAC Day.
6. Do an internet search on the life of Private John Simpson Kirkpatrick. List 3 interesting things you learned about him.
7. Do an internet search on the life of Private Billy Sing DCM. List 3 interesting things you learned about him.
8. With your club or family, bake a batch of ANZAC biscuits.
9. With your club or family, make a craft of an ANZAC Day wreath.
10. With your club or your family, attend an ANZAC Day service. As you do, think about why we commemorate this day each year. What did you learn by attending that you didn’t know before? How did it make you feel to know somebody died so that you can be free?
11. In ANZAC services, chaplains often quote John 15:13 and it is engraved in many memorials. This verse is associated with armed service in Australia and New Zealand. Read John 15:12-14. What do you think we can learn about God’s love for us by remembering those who served?
