Backpack Assembly - Advanced

Overview

Learn how to safely go on a 10-day backpacking trip.

Requirements

1. Have the Backpack Assembly Honor.

2. Read the article “Snippets of Backpacking Theory”. Discuss it with your instructor.

3. What is a picon? What other unusual types of hiking backpacks can you name?

4. Know how to choose a good backpack. Take into account the following parameters: type of tourism, multi-day, comfort, quality of materials and fittings, price-quality ratio. Choose a specific model and buy your chosen backpack. Or sew a hiking backpack yourself.

5. Write a list of equipment, both personal and group, for a multi-day hike. The time of the hike is spring or fall.

6. Know what you can replace your backpack with if necessary.

7. Know how to pack food for hiking: cereals, cookies, sugar and salt, breadcrumbs, vegetable oil, butter. Where in your backpack will you carry these foods? Assist your unit in packing groceries for the hike.

8. Hike with a backpack for a total of at least 10 days in multi-day (one-day hikes don’t count!) hikes. You must carry not only personal items, but also group gear/food.
