Backpack Assembly
Overview
Learn how to properly assemble a backpack for excursions.
Requirements
1. Tell the history of a tourist backpack (for example: duffel bags, Abalakov and Yermak backpacks, sausage backpacks, backpacks made by foreign and domestic companies). In your story, it would be nice if you could mention which backpacks were popular in your country.
2. Know the differences between different structural types of backpacks (flexible, semi-rigid and rigid), explain their advantages and disadvantages. What other types of tourist backpacks can you name?
3. Name and show the main components of a modern semi-rigid backpack.
4. Be able to adjust the backpack to fit your body.
5. What volume of backpack do you need?
6. Know how much weight you personally can carry in a backpack.
7. Write a list of things to take on an overnight trip for cold and warm seasons.
8. Name the techniques and rules for packing a backpack.
9. Describe how to protect your backpack from water when crossing a river or in the rain.
10. Take the items from requirement 6 and put them in a backpack using the knowledge from requirement 7. This should be done in less than 10 minutes at home and 20 minutes camping. Your instructor should verify that the backpack has been properly assembled.
11. Know how to properly put on and take off a backpack with and without a partner.
12. Go backpacking for at least five days (when fulfilling this requirement, you must carry some of the group-s food or group equipment and things needed for overnight stays).
