Bible Journaling - Advanced: Answer Key
1. Have the Bible Journaling Honor.
For tips and instruction see AY Honor Bible Journaling.
2. Gather and report two to three testimonies from others on how Bible Journaling fosters intimacy with Jesus.
3. Use the Bible Study Journal format by Team Jesus And Me for at least three months every day.
4. Make at least three sermon outlines from your Bible Study Journal by following the steps below:
4a. Make a theme statement out of your key verse from the chapter.
Theme statement means the one sentence wherein your whole sermon revolves around. It can be a declarative or an imperative sentence. For example, Matthew 6:33, “We must seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.”
4b. Come up with a question from the WH questions (What, Why, Where, When, Who, How) in relation to your theme statement.
For example, Matthew 6:33, “Why must we seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness?”
4c. Search the answers for your chosen WH question from the section Who is God in this chapter and What can I learn from this chapter.
Try to simplify the answers and make them the key points you want to emphasize in your sermon. For example, Matthew 6:33, “1. God must be served than mammon v. 24; 2. God values you so much v.26, 30; 3. God knows your needs v. 32. The reference verses are used to elaborate more your key points. You can also use cross references, personal experiences, other illustrations, and biblical background.
4d. Formulate an appeal.
A sermon is not complete without an appeal. Appeal means calling the audience to a commitment or an action to apply what they have learned. Check out the How do I apply my learnings to my life today section to formulate an appeal. For example, “Will you choose to seek God first in your life rather than worrying first?” Or “Will you commit the first hour in your day to seek God first?”
4e. Lastly, write a prayer of thanksgiving and request.
5. Deliver a sermon using one of your outlines to a group of people.
