Canyoning
Overview
Canyoning is the adventure sport where you follow ancient water courses down through deep rocky slots. It can involve a mix of sliding, jumping, swimming, walking and even abseiling over waterfalls. It can take you into some of the most untouched places in the world!
Requirements
1. What is canyoning?
2. How do canyons form?
3. Know and practice good canyon etiquette.
4. Abseil in a canyon environment showing proper technique and safety calls.
5. Demonstrate how to properly care for ropes and equipment after use in a canyon.
6. Demonstrate the ability to tie the following knots:
- a. Tape or water knot
- b. Figure 8
- c. Figure 8 on a bight
- d. Prusik knot
- e. Clove hitch
- f. Chain sinnet
7. Know how to treat the following:
- a. Sprain
- b. Hypothermia
- c. Shock
- d. Broken bone
- e. Concussion
8. Know how to manage canyon risks.
9. Successfully complete two different canyons and write a report of your trips.
