Guitar
Overview
The guitar is a fretted musical instrument that typically has six strings. It is an instrument used throughout the world, and many people have used it to praise God.
In this honor, you will learn about the history of the guitar, types of guitars, proper playing techniques, and much more!
Requirements
1. Research the history of guitars and how they came to your country.
2. Describe or show the difference between melody, harmony and rhythm.
3. Distinguish three different types of guitars, according to each following group:
- a. Acoustic
- b. Electric
- c. More than 6 strings
4. Identify the three divisions of the guitar and identify 15 different parts, explaining the function of each part.
5. Demonstrate the correct posture to practice guitar. Explain the importance of practicing in that position.
6. Know the names of the fingers, strings and hand positions.
7. What are the chords (figures) and how are they built? Write by memory a list of all major and minor chords, along with specific finger positions.
8. What are flats and sharps? Explain the difference between flats and sharps. Show how they are represented for guitar play.
9. Explain what chords are. Demonstrate the ability to play major and minor chords from memory.
10. Describe the difference between nylon and steel stringing, and explain the reason behind your preference.
11. Perform one song using a strumming technique and another using fingerpicking.
12. Select three Adventist songs with simple chords and play them at an official club or unit meeting.
