Haystacks
Overview
Haystacks, the beloved, delicious and filling Sabbath lunch of the Adventist Church. How you make it often depends on who first shared it with you. With so many options available, it has been varied in numerous ways though over time the basics still remain.
In this honour, you will learn the history of where Haystacks originally came from and learn about spiritual lessons that arise from sharing a “Haystack” lunch together with others.
Requirements
1. Describe a brief history of Haystacks.
2. Describe how the dish possibly got its name “Haystacks”.
3. Describe how Haystacks suits the Adventist lifestyle.
4. List the basic ingredients for Haystacks.
5. List seven ingredients for the bean mix.
6. List seven additional toppings.
7. Draw on a spiritual object lesson from eating Sabbath lunch together as a Christian church community.
8. Plan, prepare and serve a Haystacks meal for at least seven people in a sitting.
9. With your Pathfinder classmates, have a debate on the best location for the cheese in the dish.
