Jesus I - His Life
Overview
Friend class; part of the Jesus Collection set forth by the General Conference as a part of their new Pathfinder Curriculum.
Requirements
1. Read the following passages that cover “the basics” about Jesus’ life (prior to Passion Week). You may listen to audio, watch video/stream of the stories or simply read from the Bible translation of your choice.
*** Birth/Nativity (Matthew 2 or Luke 2:1-20)
- Dedication (Luke 2:22-40)
- Boy Jesus in the Temple (Luke 2:41-52)
- Baptism (Matthew 3:13-17 or Luke 3:1-6, 21-22)
- Temptations in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11 or Luke 4:1-13)
- Devotional Life of Jesus (Mark 1:35, Luke 5:16, Matthew 14:23)
- Cleansing in the Temple (Matthew 21:12–17, Mark 11:15–19, Luke 19:45–48, John 2:13–16)
- Triumphal Entry (John 12:12-19)**
2. Read/listen to one of the following chapters from the book Desire of Ages (DA) (or Humble Hero (HH) adaptation). After reading, create a list of what you believe are the five most important parts of the story OR rewrite part of the chapter in words you think a five-year-old would enjoy hearing.
*** Chapter 3 - DA The Fullness of Time/HH Man’s Sin and the “Fullness of the Time”
- Chapter 6 - DA & HH We Have Seen His Star
- Chapter 9 - DA Days of Conflict/HH Christ’s Problems as a Child
- Chapter 11 - DA The Baptism/HH The Baptism of Jesus
- Chapter 12 - DA The Temptations/HH The Wilderness Temptation**
3. On a New Testament Bible map or map of Biblical Jerusalem during the time of Christ, be able to quickly locate Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Nazareth, Jordan River, Wilderness of Temptation, Garden of Olives.
4. Illustrate the following creatively* then share what each story means to you:
*** one of the following significant events in Jesus’ life:
- Birth / Nativity
- Baptism
- and two of the following:
- Dedication
- Boy Jesus in the temple
- Temptations in the wilderness
- Cleansing the temple
- Triumphal entry**
Be sure to show your instructor the specific gospel passages you used in creating your creative illustration.
* Creativity may include: Board/group trivia game, claymation/legomation, written script and filmed skits, animation, posters, storyboard/cartoons, slideshow. The goal is to go deeper than a simple “five minute charade” and instead research the passages chosen, then using creative art media to display your learning.
