Jesus VI - In Prophecy

Overview

Guide class; part of the Jesus Collection set forth by the General Conference as a part of their new Pathfinder Curriculum.

Requirements

1. Do one of the following:

  • a. Define Messianic Prophecy. Include in your written definition the purpose of messianic prophecy, types of messianic prophecy, and a summary of why Christians believe that Jesus is the fulfillment of Old Testament messianic prophecies.
  • b. Using a commentary or Bible dictionary, develop a short, written summary of Jesus’ understanding of being the fulfillment of prophecy. (Note: a review of His “I am” passages is a great start, as is His discussion with the woman at the well in John 4, or His dialogue with Martha in John 11)

2. Examine a minimum of 10 Old Testament prophecies about the Messiah and match them with their fulfillment in the life of Jesus. Explore the importance of Jesus being the One who fulfilled the messianic prophecies. Show evidence of your learning by doing one of the following:

  • a. Draw, illustrate, and present an illustrated chart showing how the prophecies match.
  • b. Give a short worship talk of 3-5 minutes (props may be used).
  • c. Write and present a skit.
  • d. Create and present a video or other electronic media.

3. Choose one messianic prophecy and its fulfillment to illustrate creatively (if working with a group, choose different scenes to illustrate):

  • a. Written and performed skit
  • b. Reader’s theater
  • c. Song (song service or write your own)
  • d. Charade
  • e. Diorama (and tell the story)
  • f. Photo essay (and tell the story)
  • g. Song (song service or write your own)
  • h. Art project (and tell the story)

4. Do one of the following, then summarize your findings for someone who wasn’t present for the experience:

  • a. Read a blog, discussion board, or other published articles discussing messianic prophecy and its fulfillment.
  • b. Have a Messianic Jew come visit your group and share why they have chosen to believe in the Messiah.
  • c. Watch an interview of someone who converted to Christianity thanks to their study in messianic prophecy.
  • d. Watch a documentary or equivalent about messianic prophecy or Messianic Jews.
