Oral Hygiene

Overview

The focus of this honor is on understanding and practicing proper oral hygiene to maintain healthy teeth and gums throughout life. They cover the basics of dental care, including what oral hygiene is, the purpose of baby teeth, the different types of teeth and their functions, and when oral care should begin. In addition, this honor teaches about the causes of cavities and the possible damage caused by poor brushing habits, helping learners develop lifelong skills for preventing tooth decay and maintaining good dental health.

2. What type of dentition does a human being have?

3. What are baby teeth for?

4. What are the different kinds of teeth? Describe the function of each.

5. At what age should oral hygiene begin? How? Why?

6. What are the recommended foods for healthy teeth?

7. What damage can be caused by bad brushing?

8. What are the means of using fluoride? In what ways is it found?

9. What is dental plaque revealer?

10. What should be used for complete oral hygiene?

11. Demonstrate the correct way to:

  • a. Apply dental plaque revealer
  • b. Brush your teeth
  • c. Use dental floss

12. Why should fluoridated toothpaste be used?

13. How are cavities formed?
