Oar
An oar is not a paddle, but rather a long and stout pole with a blade on one end and is attached to the raft itself.

Dry Bag
A bag which keeps water out and keeps the contents within dry.

Bow
The front of a boat, also called nose and galloway.

Toss bag
A bag filled with floating line which can be thrown at swimmers in case of an emergency.

Lead Boat
The first boat in a flotilla, which takes point on an expedition.

Refers to the rear of a boat.
3. Listen to the Safety Talk.
The talk which should take place prior to departing on any trip on a river, explains important details that ought to be covered.
4. Get fitted for the safety gear the rafting company requires you to use
Life Jackets are the minimum need, but they may have helmets and more.
5. Learn how to put on and take off all gear.
