Rubik's Cube

Requirements

1. Own a Rubik’s Cube (3x3x3).

2. Give a brief account of the history of the Rubik’s Cube and mention the origin of its name.

3. What are the opposite colors that a Rubik’s Cube, which follows a traditional color pattern, will always have? If your cube does not follow the traditional color pattern, what are the opposite colors that your cube presents?

4. Explain the difference between assembling and solving the Rubik’s Cube.

5. What are the basic possible moves to make on the Rubik’s Cube? In which directions can these moves appear?

6. Is there a correct way and position to hold the Rubik’s Cube to solve it? What is the importance of holding it correctly when executing an algorithm?

7. List the main methods for solving the Rubik’s Cube. What is the best solution method for beginners? Describe the step-by-step process of this method.

8. Are there cases that are impossible to solve on the Rubik’s Cube? Why might this happen? List these cases and describe how to solve them.

9. Explain the items below:

  • a. What is an algorithm and what is its relationship to the Rubik’s Cube?
  • b. What is a scramble?
  • c. What does the term “look ahead” mean? Why is training look ahead extremely important?
  • d. What are fingertricks? Why is it important to develop these techniques to improve your performance on the Rubik’s Cube?
  • e. Define the term “twisty puzzle” and its relationship to the Rubik’s Cube.

10. Is the Rubik’s Cube considered a sport? When was this officially recognized? Can we call those who practice and participate in Rubik’s Cube competitions athletes?

11. Be able to solve a 3x3x3 Rubik’s Cube using the layer method in less than five minutes.

12. Demonstrate how to clean and lubricate a Rubik’s Cube.
