Trout Fishing - Advanced

Overview

Advanced trout fishing is a specialised and rewarding activity that combines the art of fly tying, the skill of casting, and the thrill of catching trout. This honour will delve into the history of fly fishing, the different types of flies, and the techniques for tying and casting flies. You’ll also get hands-on experience in tying your own flies and practicing your casting skills. Get ready for an engaging and educational adventure that will enhance your fly fishing expertise.

Requirements

1. Complete the Trout Fishing - 1 Honour.

2. History of Fly Fishing: Research and present a brief history of fly fishing. Include information on the origins of fly fishing and the development of fly tying techniques.

3. Types of Flies: Identify and describe at least three main types of flies used in trout fishing. Include information on dry flies, wet flies, and nymphs.

4. Fly Tying

  • a. Fly Tying: Research and find instructions on how to tie at least three different types of flies. Include step-by-step instructions for tying a dry fly, a wet fly, and a nymph.
  • b. Fly Tying Workshop: Participate in a fly tying workshop. Spend at least two hours tying flies and learning about different fly tying materials and techniques.

5. Fish in the Bible: Using a concordance look up verses through the bible that reference fish. Analyse them and look for themes, put together 3-4 paragraphs on what you found and discuss as a group.

6. Practice Casting: Practice casting with a fly rod. Set up targets and work on your accuracy and technique. Spend at least two hours practicing casting.

7. Fieldwork: Participate in a trout fishing excursion using only flies. Spend at least 3-4 hours fishing in a local river, lake, or stream. Record your experience and the types of trout caught in your workbook/notebook.
