Bible Discovery III
Overview
This honor fulfills the “Spiritual Experiences” requirements for the General Conference Explorer Achievement Class. It covers the stories and truths told about the Old Testament Prophets and Kings. The books of the Bible covered include: 1-2 Samuel, 1-2 Kings, 1-2 Chronicles, and the major and minor prophets. The wisdom literature books are covered in other honors.

Requirements
1. While completing this honor, pray for God’s guidance. Using a line graph, compare the amount of time spent praying prior to working on the Bible Discovery III honor requirements with the time spent in meaningful discovery.
2. Define, explain, or illustrate the following terms within a Biblical context during the monarchy years (1025-587 B.C.):
- a. Prophet
- b. King
- c. Anoint
- d. Divided Kingdom
- e. Schools of the prophets
- f. Temple
- g. Sacrifice
- h. Festivals of Passover and Day of Atonement
3. Choose six individuals from the list below to research/read their story in scripture. For each, write one or two sentences explaining their significance in the Bible narrative and what you personally learn from their example. If working in a group, divide the list so each member contributes and then share your findings with one another.

4. Memorize any three of the following or equivalent passages from this honor’s portions of Scripture. Be able to discuss/explain each passage’s importance in modern times. Share at least one passage in a creative way (illustration, social media post, song/poem, etc.) Suggested passages include:

- b. 1 Samuel 17:45
- c. 2 Chronicles 1:7-11
- d. 2 Chronicles 7:14
- e. 2 Chronicles 24:1-2
- f. Isaiah 1:17-19

5. Create or discover a chart listing the kings of both Israel and Judah during the Divided Kingdom years. Discover which kingdom had the greater number of “righteous” kings. Evaluate what made some kings “righteous” and others “wicked.” List at least five characteristics of “righteous leaders” that you believe are still relevant for our leaders today. Explain your reasoning.
6. On a map drawn of the Biblical era during the times of the kings and prophets, easily identify the following locations and explain their significance:
- a. Samaria
- b. Jerusalem
- c. Hebron
- d. The extent of the kingdom under king David & Solomon
- e. The borders of the divided kingdoms
- f. Brook Cherith
- g. Mount Carmel
- h. Shunem
- i. Joppa
- j. Jericho

7. Choose a character and one or more of their stories from Requirement #3. Illustrate then share the story in one of the following ways:
- a. Comic strip/storyboard
